SCULTURES : "KARMA" LA SCULTURA CIECA

"Karma" è una scultura alta 23 piedi (7 metri), installata recentemente nel cuore di Sydney al "Walda Sculpture Garden" presso il Museo d'Arte di New Orleans. Lo scultore coreano Do Ho Suh, ha scolpito una serie di fotografie di Alan Teo, la statua raffigura una torre di piggy-backed uomini, ogni uomo copre gli occhi di un uomo sotto di lui, creando l'illusione che la torre "cieca" sembri estendersi all'infinito. Le 98 figure sono fatte in una fusione di acciaio inox.

Towering 23 feet (7 meters) into the sky, Karma is a recent sculpture installed in the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden at the New Orleans Museum of Art by Korean sculptor Do Ho Suh (previously). Captured here in a series of photographs by Alan Teo, the piece depicts a tower of piggy-backed men, each successively covering the eyes of the man below him, creating an illusion that the blinded tower seems to stretch to infinity like a fractal, although technically it was made from 98 cast stainless steel figures.

Highly acclaimed London-based artist Ron Mueck will be unveiling new work at the fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain, Paris in his first major exhibition in Europe since 2005, running from the 16th of April through to the 29th september, 2013. To complement six important recent sculptures, the show also includes three pieces produced especially for the event – two teenagers in the street, a mother and baby and an elderly couple on the beach. The opus highlights Mueck’s distinctive rendition of realism and powerful use of scale, proportion and placement.

Steve has collected goods for over 35 years and in the video above shows us a tour of the museum, sharing the curious stories behind some of its more than 300,000 gadgets.

Roberto Bernardi è un pittore iperrealista italiano. Nato a Todi nel 1974, le sue opere prime risalgono ai primi anni 80. Nel 1993 Bernardi si trasferisce a Roma dove lavora come restauratore nella chiesa di San Francesco a Ripa. Dopo una incursione iniziale con paesaggi e ritratti, Bernardi si è rivolto verso "Iperrealismo".

Roberto Bernardi is a hyperrealistic still life painter from Italy. Born in Todi in 1974, Bernardi first work in oils date back to the early 80s. In 1993 Bernardi moved to Rome where he worked as a restorer in the church of San Francesco a Ripa. After an initial foray with landscapes and portraits, Bernardi turned towards Hyperrealism.

ART : COLLEZIONE DI ZIPPO DAL VIETNAM

Bradford Edwards ha collezionato questa serie di accendini "Zippo" tutti originali e incisi durante la guerra nel Vietnam. Alcuni di questi furono trovati sui cadaveri dei soldati.

Last year, Cowan’s Auctions put up a lot of 282 Vietnam War-era Zippo lighters featuring personalized and anonymous engravings chosen by U.S. soldiers, sailors, and airmen during deployment. The collection was compiled by American artist Bradford Edwards over several years in the 1990s, on-site in Vietnam. The collection sold for $35,250 on June 21, 2012.

ART : ECCO A VOI LA PENNA CHE DISEGNA IN 3D

Ecco a voi il "3Doodler", prima penna al mondo che disegna in tre dimensioni in tempo reale. La 3Doodler creata da Boston per l'azienda "WobbleWorks", società che ha recentemente lanciato una campagna "Kickstarter" per vendere i dispositivi miracolosi piccoli che utilizzano una plastica speciale che viene riscaldata e raffreddata immediatamente per formare strutture solide mentre si disegna.

Forget those pesky 3D printers that require software and the knowledge of 3D modeling and behold the 3Doodler, the world’s first pen that draws in three dimensions in real time. Imagine holding a pen and waving it through the air, only the line your pen creates stays frozen, suspended and permanent in 3D space. Sound like magic? Well it certainly looks like it, watch the video above to see the thing in action. The 3Doodler was designed by Boston-based company WobbleWorks who recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to sell the miraculous little devices that utilizes a special plastic which is heated and instantly cooled to form solid structures as you draw. I don’t know about you but for me this might have just won the most impulsive Kickstarter purchase in history.

Ecco dei lavori dell' artista di strada francese Iemza, che tratta la creazione dei suoi dipinti all'aria aperta come schizzi, e poi incorpora una gerarchia di linee sia a mano che leggermente architettoniche. L'artista utilizza spesso muri decadenti come sfondo, in cui le strutture sono state messe a nudo e lavorate in perfetta armonia con il lavoro. I suoi soggetti sono ugualmente terrificanti e belli: le facce sia inquietante che sensuali dominano la tela su cui vivono.

French street artist IEMZA tells IdN that he treats the creation of his outdoor paintings like sketches, incorporating a hierarchy of lines both organic and faintly architectural. The artist often utilizes decaying walls as a backdrop, where the underlying structures of abandoned buildings have been laid bare and work in perfect harmony with IEMZA’s imperfect, dripping line work. His subjects are equally terrifying and beautiful: hallowed-eyed faces both haunting and sensual, and other-worldly insects or monsters that completely dominate the canvas they live on.

Per i lavoratori italiani del settore delle costruzioni, paralizzato dalla recessione, ieri è stata '"La giornata della collera", e davanti alla Borsa di Milano i lavoratori, operai, impiegati, geometri, architetti e agenti immobiliari hanno portato l'attenzione su un settore che negli ultimi cinque anni, secondo i dati del centro per la ricerca economica e sociologia del mercato, ha perso 157 milioni le aziende così come 893 milioni dipendenti. Questa dimostrazione è a tutti gli effetti un opera d'arte.

In front of the milan stock exchange workers, laborers, clerks, surveyors, architects and real estate agents brought attention to a sector that in the past five years, according to data from the center for economic research and market sociology, has lost 157 million companies as well as 893 million employees.

ART : L'INCREDIBILE INCENDIO DI GHIACCIO

Per spegnere un incedio a questa vecchia caserma dei vigili del fuco di Chicago, l'acqua degli idranti ha colpito le fiamme, ma subito dopo si è ghiacchiata per via delle basse temperature invernali. Le foto a questa specie di monumento ormai, sono state fatte da Robert R. Gigliotti, David Schalliol, e Darek Szupina.

It seems like just a few days ago Chicago had huge ice news, and now this. For the past few weeks things have been pretty darned frigid here in the windy city with temperatures dropping down to the single digits, and just when we couldn’t take it anymore things started to warm up, in a massive-abandoned-warehouse-bursting-into-flames sort of way. Nearly 200 firefighters were on the scene in Chicago’s Bridgeport neighborhood to battle the blaze and incredibly nobody was injured. Temperatures were so low during the fire that water sprayed on the building froze almost instantly leaving behind a spectacularly beautiful ice-encrusted wonderland. Photographers Robert R. Gigliotti, David Schalliol, and Darek Szupina stopped by yesterday and snapped these extraordinary photos. You can see much more over on the Chicago Tribune.

SCULTURES : MACCHINE FOTOGRAFICHE VINTAGE

Ching Ching Cheng ha realizzato queste sculture con vecchie mappe e vecchi giornali di viaggio, e si è appunto ispirato ai viaggi, perchè le sue sculture di cartone rappresentano vecchie macchine fotografiche.  

Cheng’s works register the traces that memory and desire leave on objects as they are transformed and translated by time and movement across cultures. Cheng has a deep fascination with the way certain mechanical objects act as a continuation of personal identity and of the body. She sees the human form, as she puts it, “as an incredible machine.” In addition to her watercolor engine series, this theme is present in a series of small-scale sculptures Cheng has made of vintage cameras. These cameras are each constructed with meticulous care, using found books and maps.

"The Minimum Monument" project è una lettura critica dei monumenti nelle città contemporanee. In pochi minuti di "show",  i canoni ufficiali dei monumenti classici vengono invertiti: al posto del protagonista, l'anonima statuina, al posto della solidità della pietra, il ghiaccio effimero, e al posto della scala monumentale, la minimo dimensione dei corpi deperibili.

In a few-minutes action, the official canons of the monument are inverted: in the place of the hero, the anonym; in the place of the solidity of the stone, the ephemeral ice; in the place of the monumental scale, the minimum scale of the perishable bodies. The project started with solitary figures, later a multitude of small sculptures of ice were placed in public spaces of several cities. The memory is inscribed in the photographic image and shared by everyone. It is no longer reserved to great heroes nor to great monuments. It loses its static condition to gain fluidity in the urban displacement and in the change of state of the water. It concentrates small sculptures of small men, the common men.

"Swimming Pool" di Leandro Erlich è un'installazione d'arte con una sede permanente presso il Museo di Arte del 21 ° secolo di Kanzawa, in Giappone. Ha avuto anche installazioni temporanee al MoMAPS e alla Biennale di Venezia. Costruita nel 1999, la piscina permette ai visitatori di guardare in giù in una piscina apparentemente pieno d'acqua e con i visitatori completamente vestiti in giro sul fondo. Swimming Pool by Leandro Erlich is an art installation with a permanent home at the 21st Century Museum of Art of Kanzawa, Japan. It has also had temporary installations at MoMAPS1 and the Venice Biennale. Conceived in 1999, Swimming Pool allows visitors to look down into a seemingly full pool of water with fully clothed visitors walking around the bottom of the pool. From below, the blurry vision of looking up when underwater is recreated using a thin piece of glass with water running over top of it.
